A Message from the President of the PG Pool Board
Greetings, Cool Poolios. Things are shaping up well for the coming season. With budgets tight this year, it is wonderful to know that the pool, friends, swim team, music, meals—maybe even Movie Nights at the Cool Pool—are there to get us through the summer.
I subscribe to a magazine that has a section called “Boring but Important.” Since other Board members will be giving you all the exciting news on the physical plant, entertainment and special events, pool management, swim team, etc., fronts, I will focus here on the boring but important.
The bylaws—we have asked a lawyer to advise us on legal status and such. There will be a membership meeting at Countdown to Splashdown, May 16, at which we will pass on what legal advice we’ve gotten and present some initial bylaw changes that will help the board operate more efficiently. Yes, you will get the proposed changes in plenty of time to review and discuss before the meeting.
We are upgrading our bookkeeping system to ensure that we have current financial and membership data at our fingertips and are able to do badly needed, long-range planning (many thanks to Helen Searls for helping the board with all of this).
On long-range planning, we are getting estimates on renovating the pool deck, more powerful pool lights, and rewiring to improve the kitchen and lighting. A reserve fund is in place for emergencies, and we are setting aside funds for the regular maintenance and upgrades required to keep everything running well in the future.
Lower interest rates have led us to look into re-financing the loan for the liner in the main pool. Given all this financial work, the board has set up a finance committee (many thanks to Mark Knight for his consultation); we welcome interested members with financial expertise to join that committee.
But enough of the boring. What is most important is that the pool is financially solid going into this season—and it should be a great one! Before I go, do remember one thing, you are the best advertising for PG Pool, so please: recruit, recruit, recruit!
